Just in: Sheffield United striker shown exit door @ Nottingham Forest

Lyle Taylor is looking for a new club after being released by the Premier League side

Former Sheffield United striker Lyle Taylor is on the lookout for a new club after being released by Nottingham Forest. The now 33-year-old is among the players being released by the Premier League club.

He has not played a single minute for Steve Cooper’s side this season. He was named on the bench for the opening match at Newcaste but did not feature.

He was then cut from the 25-man squad and spent the season in the stands. He last played a competitive match for Birmingham after spending the second half of the 2021-22 campaign on loan at the Championship side.

Taylor joined Sheffield United in 2013 after being signed by David Weir for a fee in the region of £200,000. A run of 24 goals in 34 matches for Falkirk had alerted Weir but he never really hit it off at Bramall Lane.

He made just nine starts in League One and found the net just twice before being shipped out on loan when Nigel Clough arrived later that season.

He joined Partick for the remainder of the campaign before departing for Scunthorpe in the summer.

Also being shown the City Ground door is one-time Sheffield United target Jesse Lingard. Chris Wilder came close to bringing him to Bramall Lane in the January window of 2021 but the club later pulled out with the team rock bottom and without a win at the time.

Sheffield United are still to announce their retained list.
