Sean Dyche wants to be reunited with former Burnley staff member Billy Mercer at Everton this summer, according to Alan Nixon.

The two worked together at Turf Moor before Dyche was sacked, and when he arrived at Goodison Park he didn’t bring Mercer with him.

But according to Nixon, writing on his Patreon (4 June) he is now looking to bring in the goalkeeper coach as part of his staff for the 2023/24 season.

“Everton boss Sean Dyche is keen to sign his old goalkeeping coach and sidekick Billy Mercer,” he wrote.

“The pair worked together at Burnley and could be teaming up again at Goodison if Dyche gets his way.”

Dyche has earned the trust of Everton fans for the most part after his performance since coming in just before the January transfer window slammed shut.

The performances of the team weren’t the greatest, but they did what needed to be done with a limited squad and without Dyche having his own squad and now he needs to start building something to make his job a bit easier.

Bringing in trusted faces that know exactly the type of thing he will want to implement on the training ground will go a long way to doing that, and if it gets done the club will the have to start focusing on the playing staff.

Everton are still a Premier League team thanks to the way Dyche managed the end of the season and now the squad needs to be bolstered to ensure we’re not in a similar position next year.

It’s going to be a busy summer at Goodison Park and the board have to fully back Dyche to get things right.
