COVENTRY City academy graduate Jack Burroughs has signed a new two-year deal to remain at the club until 2025.

The 22-year-old made his first Championship start for the club last season as City claimed an impressive 1-0 away win at Watford.

And Burroughs featured 14 times for his boyhood club last term having first joined the Sky Blues when he was just seven-years-old.

Burroughs said: “It was a no-brainer.

“It’s been a successful season for me and for the group this season. To get the recognition for all the hard work I’ve put in this season, of course, I couldn’t say no to committing for another two seasons.

“It means the world to me. I’ve been a Cov fan since I was born. All my family are Cov fans and my friends as well, so it means the world to me and puts a big smile on my face.

“There were ups and downs throughout the season. I found opportunities hard to come by at times, but I like to think when I got the chance, I made the most of it.

“I relished every chance I had to wear the shirt and play in front of the fans so I’m really optimistic going into the new season.

“I learned a lot last season. I experienced playing in front of big crowds and I learned different aspects of the game and experienced playing in different positions.”

Burroughs proved to be a versatile option for manager Mark Robins last season but hopes he can find his preferred position on the pitch next term.

Burroughs added: “I’ve played on the left and the right, I’ve played out wide and I’ve played in midfield, but now I just want to try and get one position nailed down.

“I look to next season with optimism because of what I’ve done this season. The performances I have put in I feel I’ve done well and personally, I’m happy, but I know there’s a lot to improve on.

“I said at the back end of last season, what I want to be doing now is playing lots of games and I need to come back in pre-season in the best shape I can and try and push for a spot in the team.”
