The Star’s Alex Miller has had his say on the possibility of Sheffield Wednesday signing Barnsley’s Mads Andersen, with Owls fans calling foir the signing.

Sheffield Wednesday are returning to the Chamionship after a two-year stay in League One.

It was a tough couple of years, but Sheffield Wednesday come out of it in a much better position. To avoid an immediate return to the third tier though, the Owls need to be proactive in this summer’s transfer window.

As ever, Owls fans have banded round suggested summer signings, and one name that Wednesday fans seem to be clamouring for is Barnsley centre-back Mads Andersen.

The Danish centre-back led his side out at Wembley and gave a solid account of himself in front of the thousands of Wednesday fans, after being named as the Tykes’ Player of the Season for the 2022/23 campaign.

And Andersen spoke fondly of his South Yorkshire rivals ahead of the League One play-off final last month, saying:

“They’re a top team. They’ve been breaking records this season. They are experienced, they have top players, and we’re going to have to perform at our best.”

Could Wednesday snap up Andersen?
It would certainly be a good signing, let alone a cheeky one given that Wednesday have just beaten Barnsley in the play-off final.

And Sheffield Wednesday reporter Miller has had his say on the potential move. He wrote for The Star:

“On the fringes of the Denmark squad, Barnsley centre-half Andersen has impressed just about everyone with his adapting to the English game in recent seasons and at 25 surely represents one of the best prospects in the EFL. Spoke respectfully about Wednesday in the build-up to their Wembley clash in which he was outstanding. Would cost a few quid, though his contract runs out at the end of next season.”

Miller doesn’t seem to rule out the possibility, but of course, it remains purely speculative. Darren Moore could do with adding quality at centre-back and indeed through the Wednesday spine ahead of next season, with the Owls likely to be one of the sides tipped to struggle next time round.

If there’s money to spend then Andersen would of course be a shrewd signing, but expect Barnsley to make it difficult for their South Yorkshire rivals to poach their star man – should they want to, that is.
