Viktor Gyokeres told where his future lies as £30m Coventry City price tag discussed

Latest Coventry City news from CoventryLive as star striker delivers clear message about his future – prompting a response from Sky Blues fans

Viktor Gyokeres has been sent a clear message after revealing he is keen to leave Coventry City this summer.

The 25-year-old also believes the club are demanding too high a fee for him amid reported interest from the likes of Sporting Lisbon and Wolves.

The Sweden striker is one of the hottest properties in the Championship this summer, and could command anywhere up to £20m after bagging 21 goals as the Sky Blues suffered play-off final heartbreak at Wembley.

But in a frank interview with the Swedish media while on international duty, he says: “There are a number of clubs interested and Coventry surely want what they want, but I hope the club can also think about what I want and what I feel, and not just about who pays the most.”

His comments have prompted some equally forthright responses from Sky Blues fans on social media. Here is what some of them are saying…

David: What can be resolved? You either want to stay or you don’t and you clearly don’t. Nothing to be resolved. All the best, Vik. One of the best I’ve seen outside the Premier League, and also one of the most frustrating. You’ve taken at least 10 years off me.

Neil Brownsword: His honesty is refreshing, however the price is not his concern. At the end of the day he’s under contract to us.

Niall: Gyokeres putting the club in a position there. He’s off, but I hope he doesn’t go with it all a bit sour. The club is currently his employer and he is our asset and will be sold at what value we think he’s worth. If Sporting come back with £18m I’d accept and get it done asap.

Mike Seaton: He’s earned it. He’s an ambitious lad and it’s a short career. He goes with our best wishes and thanks for two bloody fun seasons.

Lee Beckett: £18m plus add-ons – Let him go to Sporting if that’s his wish.

Liam: You’ll go when we get what we want, you don’t get to dictate.

Tom Shanley: Need to get this deal done asap. Let’s move on. We can’t knock him for that. Huge summer coming up.

Nick Henderson: Very disappointed, I have to say.

Callum: £25m to £30m for him, please.

Jim Dryden: We took a gamble on him when he couldn’t hit a barn door… suppose it’s the modern way with footballers.

Matty: No real problem with him saying this, we all know he’s leaving, but the club’s interest should be getting the most money. We’ve turned his career around, now it’s his turn to bring in as much money as possible.

Martin Coleman: He has been brilliant for us. We have loved a goal scorer as any fan base does, and wherever he goes he isn’t guaranteed success. We wish him well, take the money and either benefit from add-ons or he flops and disappears. He can’t go 16 without or 1 in 7 after a big money move.

Benjii: He could be rotting in Brighton reserves right now. The club should dictate the price, not the player.
