Aston Villa reportedly ramp up interest in Nottingham Forest target

Nottingham Forest face a real battle with Aston Villa for the signing of Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams this summer.

Forest may let a few midfielders go this summer with Jonjo Shelvey and Remo Freuler both linked away from the City Ground.

One of the top targets appears to be Leeds United ace Tyler Adams.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Forest are interested in luring Adams away from Elland Road.

The American international was one of few shining lights for Leeds as they were relegated back to the Championship.

Adams, who cost Leeds £20million last year, surely won’t want to play in the second tier and Forest may now look to give him an immediate return to the top flight.

Fabrizio Romano spoke to CBS Sports Golazo a few days ago and highlighted Forest’s interest in Adams.

Romano claimed that Forest are especially interested in signing Adams but other clubs are making enquiries too.

“The expectation, especially for Tyler Adams, is to look at some opportunities in the Premier League. Nottingham Forest are a big fan of him, but there are also two, three more clubs who asking for conditions to Leeds,” said Romano.

The Athletic now report that Aston Villa are stepping up their interest in signing Adams.

Leeds would like to convince Adams to stay but that won’t be easy with so much interest arising.

It may be a little daunting for Forest to try and beat Villa, who have European football and Unai Emery as major selling points.

Yet it’s also worth pointing out the midfield options Emery already has at his disposal.

Douglas Luiz, Boubacar Kamara, John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey and new signing Youri Tielemans are already vying for playing time.

Adams wouldn’t be guaranteed a starting role at Villa and may receive more playing time with a move to the City Ground.

Money will be a factor too but having Adams protecting Steve Cooper’s back four sounds very appealing.

This would be a statement signing for Forest and one which could help improve Cooper’s midfield heading into the new season.
