Any potential deal to see Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo sign for Rangers will be a ‘slow burner’, with a disagreement over the fee, according to latest reports.

Rangers have been heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old this summer, with the player set to return to Forest this summer after a season on loan in the Championship. He reached the play-off final with Coventry City, but was unable to help them win promotion with the club losing to Luton Town on penalties.

Latest reports say that there are still talks between Rangers and Forest over the player, who looks set to leave the club this summer. However, a deal could now be harder to do.

According to the Daily Mail, via the Daily Record , Rangers are ‘not willing’ to meet Forest’s asking price for Panzo this summer. Any potential deal is described as a ‘slow burner’ with Rangers boss Michael Beale also on the lookout for attacking options in the transfer window.

A potential transfer fee of £2.5 million has previously been mentioned, but the Scottish giants could now be prioritising moves, and therefore money, on other transfers. Panzo joined Forest from French side Dijon in January 2022.

He has made just one first team appearance for the Reds, featuring in the 1-1 Championship draw against Hull on the final day of the normal season in 2021/22. He did not feature in the successful play-off campaign.

Rangers are not the only side said to be showing an interest in the centre-back this summer. Other unnamed clubs in both Germany and England are reportedly ‘keen’ on a potential transfer before the deadline.

Forest may well be in the market for another striker this summer with Awoniyi needing some more support up top.

The Foxes have suffered relegation to the Championship and Forest may now be keen to try and raid their East Midlands rivals.

The 26-year-old has just one year left on his contract and Forest may look to take advantage with a move this summer.

If Forest do sign Iheanacho, Forest hitman Awoniyi would be very happy.

Awoniyi and Iheanacho know each other very well from playing for Nigeria in their youth team days.

They could rekindle their connection in Forest shirts next season and Awoniyi has now had his say on Iheanacho.

Awoniyi has told Soccernet in Nigeria that the pair were roommates back in the day and the Forest star still considers Iheanacho his best friend in the Nigeria squad.

“From the youth days, Kelechi [Iheanacho] has been my best friend,” said Awoniyi. “He was my roommate at the Under-17 level, and I always see him as my best friend when we were on national duty because of the past relationship that we have,” he added.

Iheanacho may well be tempted to join Awoniyi at Forest given their history together, and it may just give Forest an edge over other clubs.

Steve Cooper would then hope to see Awoniyi and Iheanacho create some magic together and take Forest’s attack to another level.
