Taiwo Awoniyi admits friendship with Nottingham Forest transfer target
Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has admitted his love for Leicester City hitman Kelechi Iheanacho amid recent transfer rumours.
Forest may well be in the market for another striker this summer with Awoniyi needing some more support up top.
Chris Wood will be back but question marks surround the futures of both Sam Surridge and Emmanuel Dennis.
Forest may let Dennis go but then bring in another Nigerian forward with Iheanacho allegedly wanted.
Own Goal Nigeria report that Forest have accelerated talks to try and sign Leicester City attacker Kelechi Iheanacho.
It’s added that Iheanacho is expected to agree personal terms with Forest this week, with a
The Foxes have suffered relegation to the Championship and Forest may now be keen to try and raid their East Midlands rivals.
Leicester forked out £25million to sign Iheanacho from Manchester City in 2017 but Forest would likely seek a cheaper deal.
The 26-year-old has just one year left on his contract and Forest may look to take advantage with a move this summer.
Taiwo Awoniyi would love Kelechi Iheanacho move
If Forest do sign Iheanacho, Forest hitman Awoniyi would be very happy.
Awoniyi and Iheanacho know each other very well from playing for Nigeria in their youth team days.
They could rekindle their connection in Forest shirts next season and Awoniyi has now had his say on Iheanacho.
Awoniyi has told Soccernet in Nigeria that the pair were roommates back in the day and the Forest star still considers Iheanacho his best friend in the Nigeria squad.
“From the youth days, Kelechi [Iheanacho] has been my best friend,” said Awoniyi. “He was my roommate at the Under-17 level, and I always see him as my best friend when we were on national duty because of the past relationship that we have,” he added.
Iheanacho may well be tempted to join Awoniyi at Forest given their history together, and it may just give Forest an edge over other clubs.
Steve Cooper would then hope to see Awoniyi and Iheanacho create some magic together and take Forest’s attack to another level.
