Nottingham Forest target Kings Kangwa has admitted his interest in making a move from Crvena zvezda to the Premier League.
Few Forest fans would have had Kangwa on their list of dream transfer targets for the summer.
The Zambian midfielder is a relative unknown outside of his home country, Russia and Serbia.
Formerly of Buildcon in Zambia and Arsenal Tula in Russia, Kangwa is now a star man for Crvena zvezda – or, as you may know them, Red Star Belgrade.
The Forest transfer rumour mill churned out Kangwa’s name last week as The Guardian’s Ed Aarons reported ongoing talks.
Aarons suggested that Forest were in talks over a £2.6million move for Kangwa amid interest from Celtic, Fiorentina, Lille and Montpellier.
Beating those clubs won’t be easy but Forest may think that they have unearthed a gem in Kangwa.
The 24-year-old racked up 12 goals and six assists this past season to help Crvena zvezda win the title.
An all-action midfielder who has also played out wide in the past, Kangwa only arrived in Serbia last summer but could already move on.
Kings Kangwa keen on Premier League move
Kangwa has now spoken about the rumours whilst speaking to Zambian Observer back in his home country.
Kangwa admits that playing in the Premier League is an absolute dream for him and suggested that he would take the chance if it came his way.
The midfielder added that he is humbled by the interest from clubs like Forest and will continue to work hard regardless of any speculation.
“It’s every player’s dream to play in the EPL,” said Kangwa. “Let’s wait and see. If a chance comes to play in the EPL, why not take it?”
“We shall cross the bridge when we get there. I am humbled by the interest I am receiving. Otherwise, I will continue to work hard until I reach the level I want to play,” he added.
Kangwa probably didn’t think a Premier League move was in his near future when playing for Buildcon in 2019.
Only five Zambian players – Patson Daka, Neil Gregory, Emmanuel Mayuka, Collins Mbesuma and Enock Mwepu – have played in the Premier League, and Kangwa wasn’t even born when Gregory featured for Ipswich Town.
It’s a pipe dream for most Zambian talents but Kangwa could make that dream a reality with a move to Forest this summer.
