Rangers aren’t expected to revive their pursuit of Swansea City’s Morgan Whittaker this summer, amid emerging interest from Coventry City.

The Scottish giants are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old, but have not yet given any indication they are serious in rekindling their interest, and there are now real doubts over whether they will now return to the fold.

There was an expectation that the Scottish giants would come back with a revised offer after being knocked back several times in the January window. However, the capture of Abdallah Sima on loan from Brighton has perhaps cooled their interest a little.

A move to Ibrox hasn’t been completely ruled out, but a fresh approach this summer is, as things stand, considered unlikely.

In the mean time, WalesOnline understands Whittaker has now emerged on the radar of Championship rivals Coventry, although they are similarly yet to firm up their interest with a formal approach at this stage.

Coventry are seemingly resigned to losing star striker and former Swan Viktor Gyokeres in this window, amid heavy links with a big-money move to Sporting Lisbon. His departure could potentially add pace to their potential interest in Whittaker, although it seems unlikely he will be brought in as a like-for-like replacement.

Plymouth are also big fans Whittaker, who netted nine goals for the Pilgrims last season during a highly successful loan spell last. However, there are still doubts over whether they have the financial muscle needed to get a deal done.

Sunderland have also been linked, but they are not considered a serious contender at this stage.

Whittaker himself is currently away with the rest of the Swans squad in Spain as part of their warm weather training camp.

Despite a potential fresh chapter under new boss Michael Duff, his future at the club remains shrouded in uncertainty.
