Everton transfer news: Crystal Palace emerge as Arnaut Danjuma threat after Tottenham exit

Crystal Palace has emerged as the “main interested party” for Arnaut Danjuma after Everton made contact over a move, according to El Periodico Mediterraneo.

The Dutch international has just left Tottenham after half a season on loan, having dramatically backed out of the same arrangement at Goodison Park in January after Frank Lampard was sacked.

The Toffees are back in for the Villarreal man, with the relationship between both sides thought to remain positive despite the winter move collapse.

Danjuma has reportedly made clear that he doesn’t want to remain at Villarreal and would “welcome” a move to another club in England.

But Crystal Palace are now key competition for his services as they look to replace Wilfried Zaha, and with both Premier League clubs having been in touch it is currently the Eagles that appear to be ahead.

Twice shy

If Everton are going to make as second run at signing Danjuma they should probably be pretty sure that they can win the race.

Missing out on him the first time was bad enough when he had already arrived at Goodison Park and done his medical, so to be snubbed twice would not be a good look after being left “furious and surprised” previously.

The Toffees subsequently failed to add anybody in January after that loan fell through, and simply can’t afford to have a similar outcome this summer.

If the 26-year-old can be convinced to join Sean Dyche’s set up then on paper he seems a reasonably strong option for a side that is badly lacking in attacking depth.

But if Lampard’s replacement by the former Burnley boss helped contribute to Danjuma skipping out to Spurs in January then perhaps he isn’t convinced.

If the wide man is just looking for any opportunity to remain in England then perhaps he shouldn’t be pursued, as he didn’t make much of an impact at Tottenham, but if Everton are confident that he would be committed to the cause at Goodison Park and can make a difference then he will remain an option in light of an apparent lack of extensive alternatives.
