Nottingham Forest have not completely ruled out a summer move for last season’s loanee Renan Lodi, according to reports in Brazil.

The Atletico Madrid defender spent last season on loan at the City Ground as he helped the Reds to maintain their place in the Premier League at the end of the season. He impressed with his performances, so much so that Steve Cooper was keen to make the move permanent this summer.

Forest have however run into a problem with a number of clubs said to be interested in the player this summer. The player’s agent has now also suggested that he has an eye on playing Champions League football in the new season.

Forest are said to have had a buy clause in Lodi’s loan deal, but that needed to be triggered by March in order to be valid – something that didn’t happen. The Reds are also said to be keen on renegotiating a lower price than the €30m (£25.8m) clause.

This all puts doubt over a potential transfer, but Forest are reported not to have completely given up on a move. According to Premier League Brasil, Forest are still in ‘contact’ over a potential permanent move, although the chances of a return to the City Ground are described as ‘not great’.

The report also suggests that Atletico Madrid will not be open to another loan deal, meaning that Forest will have to make a financial offer to the Spanish side should they wish to see the full-back playing for the club again in the new season. It seems that the Reds are eyeing potential successors in the position.

The club are said to have held discussions with Italian side Monza over a move for Carlos Augusto . The 24-year-old is said to be available for a fee of around £8 million this summer.
