Leeds United rival Burnley for Bristol City star available on free transfer
Bristol City said goodbye to Han-Noah Massengo this week – but he could soon be an opponent.
Leeds United are reportedly considering a move for Han-Noah Massengo, who left Bristol City last week, following the expiry of his contract.
The 21-year-old is a free agent, having seen his contract expire, despite an attempt from the club to keep him at Ashton Gate. He has attracted interest from clubs in England, his native France, and clubs in other countries, and now a 2023/24 Championship rival are said to hold an interest in the midfielder.
Phil Hay, the dedicated Leeds United reporter for The Athletic, claims that the Whites have ‘transfer interest’ in Massengo, but are aware that he would command a compensation fee because of his age. The France Under-21 star is not their only midfield target and they also like Gustavo Hamer from Coventry City.
Massengo’s next departure is something of interest to Bristol City, as because he was their player for four years and they helped nurture him, they will be due compensation. A move abroad could see them pocket a reported £260,000 meanwhile an English club could see them earn even more because of FA rules, regarding player development.
Leeds have recently appointed former Norwich City manager Daniel Farke as their new manager, beating off fierce competition, and will be considered one of the best contenders for promotion. The Yorkshire club haven’t yet lost many of their main stars, and are subject to a takeover, which could give them a warchest to assemble a team capable of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking. A move to Elland Road could provide an opportunity for Massengo to find a route into English football’s top-flight given their stature and chances of promotion.
