Wolves back in for Bristol City sensation Alex Scott as bidding war begins

Both Bournemouth and Wolves have had bids rejected before with West Ham also interested

Wolves could struggle to fund Alex Scott move

Bristol City’s young midfielder Alex Scott could about to be the subject of a bid of more than £20 million from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph today.

Wolves had made an unconfirmed opening bid of £18 million for the teenager earlier in the transfer window, and there had been rumours that the West Midlands club were not going to be prepared to enter a bidding war for the player.

But, according to the Daily Telegraph, that has now changed with Wolves manager Joan Lopetegui said to be the driving force behind demands for the Premier League club to return with a higher offer for the 19-year-old midfielder, who played the second half of Bristol City ’s first pre-season friendly today, a behind-closed-doors 6-2 win over Torquay United.

Bristol City are understood to value Scott, who doesn’t turn 20 until late August, at at least £25 million. The club were reported to have rejected a £15 million plus add-ons bid from Bournemouth last week too, and with other clubs including West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur said to be interested in the young midfielder, it could be a bidding war develops over the summer for the player named as the Championship’s young player of the season earlier this year.

Bristol City will point to the £50 million price tag slapped on their 19-year-old midfielder Romeo Lavia by Championship-bound Southampton as something of a benchmark, and fans hope that either City hold out for a bumper deal, or are happy to keep their player of the season for another year – Scott has two years left on his contract, and could continue to develop at Ashton Gate as manager Nigel Pearson rebuilds his side.
