Club chief celebrates ‘big coup’ as Manchester United talent signs

Charlie Savage has decided to leave Manchester United and League One side Reading appear to be delighted with his arrival.

Everybody loves when a homegrown star comes through the ranks.

We have seen Marcus Rashford become an Old Trafford hero whilst there are now hopes that Kobbie Mainoo can follow suit.

Not everybody can make that transition to the first team though and Zidane Iqbal decided to leave for Utrecht this summer.

Charlie Savage has followed suit with the youngster now completing a move to League One side Reading.

United are understood to have a sell-on clause in the deal, as well as an agreement to match any bid for him down the line.

Savage has been coming up through the United ranks in recent years and has attracted headlines given that his father is Robbie Savage.

The midfielder made his United debut against Young Boys back in 2021 but other first-team opportunities weren’t forthcoming.

Savage joined Forest Green Rovers on loan in January and Reading have now seen enough to strike a permanent deal.

The hope is that Savage will now kick on and thrive with first-team football under his belt with the League One side.

Reading delighted with Savage deal

Savage has already said goodbye to United whilst father Robbie posted an emotional farewell on social media.

Reading seem delighted with the move as Head of Football Operations Mark Bowen raved about Savage’s arrival.

Speaking to the Reading official website, Bowen hailed Savage as a real coup for the Royals.

Bowen believes Savage’s move shows how exciting Reading’s project is and believe the youngster has ‘bags of talent’.

“We are delighted to secure Charlie’s signature and this represents a big coup for Reading Football Club. His decision to entrust this club with the next stage of his fledgling career speaks volumes about the project we are building here,” said Bowen.

“Charlie is a young man who is already beginning to realise his potential and it will be exciting to see him continue to elevate his game under Rubén’s guidance. He arrives with bags of talent, with a clear desire to keep learning, and intent on making an impact as a senior footballer at Reading,” he added.

Bowen played with Robbie Savage for Wales in the 1990’s and coached him with both Blackburn Rovers and the Welsh national team.

Bowen has now pounced for Savage’s son, adding a real level of intrigue to Savage junior’s move to Berkshire.
