Reading are preparing for life in League One next season following their relegation from the Championship and are in need of some reinforcements under new boss Ruben Selles.

Anjorin, 21, has spent time away from Chelsea on loan at Huddersfield Town in the second tier in the past to get experience.

The Sunday Mirror’s Witcoop has claimed on Twitter that he is expected to depart the Blues on a temporary basis again this summer and the Royals have ‘declared’ an interest in landing him

Anjorin would certainly inject more quality into Reading’s ranks as they look to gain an immediate promotion in the next campaign. Luring him to the third tier would also be a statement of intent but they may need to bat away competition from higher leagues and abroad if they are to win the race for his signature.

Russell Martin ‘really annoyed’ after conceding two at Reading

SAINTS boss Russell Martin said he was ‘really annoyed’ to concede two sloppy goals as his side beat Reading 4-2 in a pre-season friendly.

Southampton scored four goals as they dominated the game at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, however individual mistakes prevented them from keeping a clean sheet.

Reading’s first goal came from Jan Bednarek’s heavy touch, while Gavin Bazunu allowed Olomide Shodipo’s shot to squeeze under him for the Royals’ second.

On the whole, Martin was pleased with his new team’s performance but pointed out there are still some things which need to be ironed out.

Speaking after the game he said: “I’m really annoyed at conceding two poor goals.

“There’s going to be loads of mistakes along the way but we will help them through it.

“As long as they are honest mistakes and they remain brave all the time there will be some beautiful moments as there were today, and there will be some sticky ones.

“I really believe it’s the best way to enjoy what you are doing as footballers.

‘To dominate the ball and to show what you can do. Hopefully, some of them will have felt that today and I think they would have.

“From the feedback, I think they did, and they need to take that feeling and want it again and keep pushing eachother on.”

Southampton were forced into an early change in the first half when youngster Sam Amo-Ameyaw replaced Sekou Mara who hobbled off the field.

The second half saw Martin make wholesale changes including debut appearances for both Shea Charles and Ryan Manning.

Even with the high player turnaround, Southampton’s attacking danger didn’t suffer after the break.

Adam Armstrong added to their lead before Sam Edzioe assisted his fellow substitute Joe Aribo for Saints’ fourth.

“We are excited about it,” Martin added. “The build-up changes a little bit, but without the build-up you don’t get the stuff at the top end of the pitch that we had in the first half.

“We will never take that for granted. We looked really dangerous.

“Sam Edozie looked really dangerous, Moussa (Djenepo) had moments, Joe Aribo was fantastic attacking the gaps, Che (Adams) made brilliant runs and we didn’t find him enough.

“It’s really exciting for us. When you change and take away so much, of course it changes the build-up a little bit.

“We went long too early at times but there’s a balance to that. We showed our teeth a lot today which I really liked.”
