Latest Aston Villa transfer news from BirminghamLive as future of Finn Azaz discussed after successful loan at Plymouth last season

Aston Villa midfielder Finn Azaz, on loan at Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth Argyle boss Steven Schumacher has admitted they are open to signing Aston Villa midfielder Finn Azaz this summer.

The 22-year-old had a successful loan with the Pilgrims in 2022/23 when he helped them secure promotion to the Championship. He scored eight goals and provided nine assists in League One.

And our sister website PlymouthLive reports that Schumacher would happily welcome Azaz back to Home Park for their 2023/24 campaign, but is cautious over their chances of pulling off a deal.

When asked whether they retained an interest in Azaz, the Plymouth manager replied: “There is always interest in good players.”

And on whether there was the possibility of a deal, Schumacher added: “I will leave that to the lads behind the scenes if that’s okay.

“Finn is a good player and we like Finn. He did really well for us last year. If we can bring him back we would be interested, if we can’t then we will go somewhere else.”

Azaz was involved in Villa’s pre-season preparations last summer but was not included in their squad for the current Premier League Summer Series in the USA. In fact, he has yet to make a senior appearance for the Villains since arriving from West Brom in July 2021.

“They have been a sponsor of the club for the past three years, with the partnership being mutually beneficial throughout its duration so far. Bidfood will now become our Official Events Partner, which will see them access thousands of visitors who attend Home Park Stadium every year.
