Nottingham Forest ‘consider’ surprise Arsenal transfer as USMNT brace for move

Arsenal transfer news: Matt Turner’s long-term future at the Emirates Stadium could be in doubt with the signing of Brentford goalkeeper David Raya

Arsenal and USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner could be about to secure a surprise transfer this summer.

The 29-year-old only joined the Gunners last summer from New England Revolution, replacing Bernd Leno as Aaron Ramsdale’s understudy. Turner made only seven appearances in his first season in England.

His lack of regular game time in the Premier League didn’t impact his position as the United States’ first-choice goalkeeper. Turner helped his nation retain the CONCACAF Nations League title in June with back-to-back clean sheets against Mexico and Canada before reaching the Gold Cup semi-finals.

Turner isn’t expected to see his game time at Arsenal increase next season due to the clubs’ return to the UEFA Champions League. However, he may be handed a chance for regular minutes in England with a move to Nottingham Forest.

According to The Athletic, the Gunners are ‘exploring’ the signing of Brentford goalkeeper David Raya. No formal bid has been made as of yet, but the Spain international’s arrival would put Turner’s future in doubt.

The report suggests that Forest are interested in Turner and are planning two goalkeeping additions this summer after Keylor Navas and Dean Henderson returned to their parent clubs at the end of their respective loan spells.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Forest will only sign one goalkeeper and Turner is one of the options. The journalist has claimed the American could move to the east Midlands on a permanent basis.

Turner is a well-respected figure within Arteta’s squad and has formed a positive relationship with Ramsdale. However, at 29 and the 2026 World Cup in the USA on the horizon, regular minutes must be a priority for the goalkeeper.

Forest could be set for another battle against relegation meaning Turner will be faced with a number of challenges and opportunities to prove his worth. Should Raya move to north London, a move away from Arsenal is all-but-certain for Turner.
