‘I also know for a fact’: 21-year-old wants to leave Wolves for two main reasons – journalist

Fabio Silva is reportedly still keen to leave Wolves this summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Luton Town - Pre Season Friendly

The youngster has returned to the club after a productive 2022/23 season that saw him score goals and play regularly on loan at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven.

He’s featured in pre-season, and looked quite impressive.

Silva has received a great reception from supporters, and a large section of the Wolves fanbase is keen to see him stay.

Silva has recently put out a couple of messages via social media to suggest that he is happy at Wolves.

But the club’s financial situation will dictate what happens with him, so it’s not out of the question that he could yet leave.

And actually, that is something that he would still be very much open to…

Fabio Silva still keen for Wolves exit this summer

Silva came up on conversation on the latest Express & Star podcast, with journalists Liam Keen and Nathan Judah.

The pair were fielding questions, and a fan asked about potential winners and losers of Gary O’Neil coming in as Julen Lopetegui’s replacement.

Keen spoke about Silva as being a potential winner.

But he did make some comments that may worry some fans that really want Silva to stay long term.

He said: “To be honest, he likelihood of him going (now) is probably fairly slim at this stage. Wolves can’t afford to let a fairly key player go at this stage.

“But we all know that him and his people have been looking at getting him out of the club. A few people questioned, a little bit, the interview I did with him recently to say ‘he’s not actually saying he wants to go’.

“If you read what he’s saying and also, I was there speaking to him person… he was very much implying that he wants to go and I also know for a fact, having spoke to sources, that he would like to leave. But it’s not because he doesn’t like Wolves or the fans – he made that very clear.

“It may have changed the last week or so. But from last I checked he would like to leave this summer. For two main reasons.

“Number one, Wolves don’t score many goals or haven’t done the last two seasons. As a striker you want to be the one to put that right, but equally you want to have the chances to put that right. I think he feels he won’t have that chance.

“Secondly, under Lopetegui he wanted to feel like he was loved. He wants to be the main man. He’s the kind of guy that needs someone to put their arm around his shoulder and say you’re my guy going forwards. He wasn’t getting that under Lopetegui. He started against Luton and did well, he’s come off the bench in the other games. But he was very much a part of the second XI during pre-season. He wants to be the main man up there.”

Keen stresses that Silva has not once caused any issues despite his feelings. The youngster has always maintained professionalism.

With Lopetegui now gone of course, perhaps Silva will get that arm around the shoulder from O’Neil.

Silva stance a shame, but keeping him is still the way to go for Wolves

It is a shame that Silva is still feeling as though he wants to leave.

But from the sounds of it, Silva is committed to Wolves while he is here.

It doesn’t sound like he’s about to down tools or anything like that.

If Wolves do not receive a big bid for him in the coming weeks then he must be kept.

Quite simply he has become key now following the exit of Raul Jimenez, and he does look ready to go in the Premier League for Wolves.
