Barnsley Reject Bid For Star Man
Barnsley have rejected a bid from Championship side Coventry City for captain Liam Kitching, according to a report from the Barnsley Chronicle.
The defender has played a starring role for the League One side and has since been rewarded with the captain’s armband, but could he be set for a move to the second tier this summer?
Who is Liam Kitching?
The 23-year-old arrived at Oakwell in January 2021, following a successful two-year spell with Forest Green Rovers. He’s since made 90 appearances for the League One side, contributing to ten goals.
His season so far
Kitching wasn’t selected to feature for Barnsley during their EFL Cup draw against Tranmere Rovers, with the League One side crashing out on penalties after an entertaining 2-2 draw.
However, Kitching led from the back as Barnsley cruised to a 7-0 win against Port Vale on the opening day of the League One season. This included the defender securing his first goal of the campaign too.
What’s been said?
According to a report from journalist Doug O’Kane from the Barnsley Chronicle, the League One side have turned down a bid of approximately £2.5 million plus add-ons for the defender from Coventry.
The Skyblues have already signed Barnsley goalkeeper Brad Collins and former Barnsley loanee Bobby Thomas this summer, with the club aiming to make Kitching the third summer arrival from last season’s Barnsley side.

As a Coventry fan, I would love to see Liam Kitching join the club but it is important that we don’t overpay for the 23-year-old this summer.
He is a crucial member of the Barnsley squad and the club cannot afford to lose a player of his quality at the back this summer, but it remains to be seen whether a second bid is made by the Championship side.
