Wolves can sign Alex Scott alternative for just £13m after 24-assist season

The £13 million-rated Mike Tresor has reportedly informed Genk of his desire to leave with Wolves just one potential Premier League destination for the Belgium international.

Only one player in the whole of Europe produced more assists across all competitions than Mike Tresor in 2022/23. 42 games. Eight goals. 24 more provided for his grateful Genk team-mates. Numbers more readily associated with Belgium team-mates Kevin de Bruyne or a peak-era Eden Hazard.

And with Hazard’s time at the top level seemingly over, with De Bruyne’s own injury problems a cause for concern, do not be surprised to see the former Willem II talisman carry the creative can for the Rote Duivels at Euro 2024.

Mike Tresor an Alex Scott alternative for Wolves

By the time that tournament rolls around, Tresor could have a year of Premier League football under his belt too.

According to the Daily Mail, Brentford have discussed a deal for the 24-year-old set-piece specialist. Crystal Palace, Brighton, Burnley and Nottingham Forest also watched Tresor at times last season – per 90Min – while Wolves could yet emerge as serious suitors after missing out on Alex Scott to Bristol City.

Much to the frustration of the now-departed Julen Lopetegui, Wolves were blown out the water as Bournemouth secured a £25 million deal for former Bristol City starlet Scott. Tresor, however, is reportedly available for around 50 per cent of Scott’s fee.

Het Belang van Limburg add that, in conversions with Genk director Dimitri de Conde, Tresor has informed the Belgian giants of his desire to move on. Genk will not stand in his way either, so long as one of his many suitors are willing to stump up £13 million.

No team scored fewer Premier League goals in 2022/23 than Wolves’ 31. Tresor would add genuine star quality to a side who, for much of the last three years, have possessed far more bark than bite.

Max Kilman’s new contract gives Wolves boost after weeks of chaos

Wolves captain Max Kilman is signing a new bumper contract in a sorely needed boost for the club after a chaotic week.

Max Kilman of Wolverhampton Wanderers reacts during the pre-season friendly match

Kilman has agreed terms on a five-year deal and will remain at Molineux, in a development which will provide huge encouragement for new head coach Gary O’Neil.

Wolves have already raised £90 million in player sales this summer, with the departures of key players including Ruben Neves and Conor Coady, while Julen Lopetegui has walked out in frustration over the club’s financial situation.

Wolves said that the club and Lopetegui had “acknowledged and accepted their differences of opinion on certain issues and agreed that an amicable end to his contract was the best solution for all parties.”

Serie A champions Napoli had made a £30 million bid for Kilman earlier in this transfer window, while Tottenham’s recruitment team have been long-term admirers.

The sale of the centre-back would have only heightened fears among supporters over the season ahead. Yet the 26-year-old has never displayed any intention to leave and an official announcement for the new contract is expected next week. His present contract had just under over two years to run.

Kilman has made over 100 appearances for Wolves since his £40,000 move from non-league Maidenhead United in August 2018.

He was confirmed as captain for this season by O’Neil at his press conference unveiling on Friday.

“I haven’t done the vice captain yet but Max is a really important member of the group. The way he works, the way he trains and the way everyone speaks about him around the place – he is a really important member,” said O’Neil.

“The captaincy will remain with Max and there are other people in the group that are more than capable of pushing things forward and upholding the standards we set. I am really pleased with the group’s leadership qualities.”

Wolves kick off the new season with a trip to Manchester United on Monday night.
