Swansea now in talks to sign £2m Hull City target

Swansea City are looking to beat Hull City to the signing of Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis, reports The Athletic.

Davis, 25, looks set to be on the move this summer, with the Championship looking like the Aston Villa man’s likeliest destination.

Hull City are working on a deal to bring the attacker to the MKM Stadium. It’s said that the Tigers have agreed a £2million deal for the striker but that personal terms are yet to be agreed upon.

And now, Hull look like they’re facing fresh, and strong competition from Swansea City for the signing of Davis, with Swansea having just netted £10million from Leeds United who’ve snapped up Joel Piroe.

The Athletic report that Swansea are in talks with Villa over a potential deal for Davis, who the Swans view as a potential replacement for Piroe.

A good replacement?

Replacing Piroe with Davis may be a bit underwhelming for Swans fans. He’d had good and bad spells in Championship loan moves in the past but the idea of Davis scoring the same amount of goals as Piroe seems like a farfetched one.

Still, Davis along with Jerry Yates gives Michael Duff two solid options in attack and between them, they could spearhead a potentially strong Swansea frontline.

And beating Hull to the signing could be tricky. Swansea have some money in the bank and Villa will no doubt just accept the highest offer for Davis, but Hull seem to be a lot further down the line for a potential deal for Davis.

It looks like a two-horse race now and who wins remains to be seen. But Davis certainly looks like he’ll be on the move before September 1st.

Swansea City told to accelerate transfer search as Michael Duff gives update on forgotten man

The door could still be open for forgotten man Nathanael Ogbeta

Michael Duff has urged Swansea City to step up their search for another left-back ahead of the final week of the summer transfer window.

The Swans boss has made little secret of his desire to land further left-sided options this summer, and has already secured the capture of Dutch star Nathan Tjoe-A-On from Excelsior.

However, it’s a position he’s still keen to strengthen further, and he’s urged the club to act quickly to get another body through the door.

“It needs to be imminent because we’ve only got a week left,” he said.

“I’m sure by this time next week I’ll be able to give you definite answers one way or the other. We’ve been trying. We’ve been pushing. There’s seven days left in the window and it will all be addressed next week.

“I said when I took the job we needed left-sided players. We’re getting to a point now where we need left-sided players and we’ve only got a week left. So, it needs to be sorted.”

One might well wonder what Nathanael Ogbeta makes of it all.

The 22-year-old hasn’t played a single minute under Duff, and is currently working his way back from a thigh injury picked up while on loan at Peterborough United last season.

As such, he’s not really been a part of the conversation under the Northern Irishman, and many will feel his future at the Swans now appears uncertain given Duff’s recent comments, particularly given he has just one year left on his current deal.

However, for now it seems Duff is keeping his options open, although he admits it’s too early to say whether the former Manchester City man will have a place in his plans.

“I’ve not seen him on the grass,” he said. “I think he’s still two, three, or four weeks away working his way back from injury.

“I obviously know Nat because I was in the league he was in last year when he went to Peterborough and Shrewsbury or not.

“It’s hard to say yet whether he’s in the plans or if he’s not in the plans. A, I’ve not seen him at this level, with the group. B, we don’t know what’s coming in, whether it does come in or whether it doesn’t. So it’s about being fluid and flexible.

“Do I think he’s a good player? Yeah. I’ve seen loads of positive things about him when I’ve seen him play. Obviously that’s at a level below and we’re at a level up. So it’s hard to make a judgement.

“I’ve had conversations with Nat. Quite a few conversations as he’s always about in the canteen and he’s not always out on the grass with the players.

“In terms of personality, he’s a great kid. He has got ability. Where that will take him, we’ll wait and see.

“He was braced up for a long time. In the first six weeks of me being here he was walking around in a brace, so when you have a brace on for that length of time, you lose a lot of mass. That’s where he’s at now. It’s a case of trying to re-build up his quads.
