DANIEL LEVY NOW IN TALKS TO BRING ‘SPECIAL’ PLAYER TO TOTTENHAM

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is in direct talks with Nottingham Forest over a deal to sign forward Brennan Johnson.

Brentford are coming back in for Brennan Johnson but Tottenham Hotspur are still pushing to sign the Nottingham Forest ace.

That is according to The Telegraph, who claim that Brentford are now returning to the race for Johnson.

The Bees were keen to sign Johnson earlier this summer but failed with bids of around £30million and £35million.

Brentford have made their move and Fabrizio Romano claims that a bid of £43million plus add-ons and a sell-on clause has been rejected by Forest.

It’s clear that Steve Cooper’s men will not sell Johnson easily and it may take around £50million in guaranteed money to convince Forest to sell.

Brentford obviously love Johnson but appear to be moving on to other targets.

Romano adds that Brentford now want to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko with Johnson ‘no longer a priority target’.

The Telegraph’s report adds that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is now speaking to Forest in the hope of getting a deal done.

Tottenham don’t have a director of football right now so Levy is taking it upon himself to try and get this deal moving.

Brentford seemingly felt that this was worth one last push in the hope of finally landing Johnson,  who has been praised as ‘special’ by Glenn Murray.

Yet if reports are to be believed, Johnson has made his preference clear – and it’s Tottenham Hotspur.

Reports last week suggested that Chelsea were keen on Johnson but had backed out of the race after the Welsh international made it clear that he wanted to join Tottenham.

Spurs still have to get a deal in place though and meeting Forest’s lofty asking price won’t be easy, even after selling Harry Kane.

The Telegraph reported on Sunday that Tottenham are preparing to make an offer for Johnson which could include Davinson Sanchez and Bryan Gil.

Whether Forest are open to a part-exchange deal remains to be seen and Levy seemingly has his work cut out to get Johnson down to North London.
