The ex-Real Madrid and Chelsea superstar looks set to hang up his boots at the age of 32

Eden Hazard reportedly rejected a concrete offer from Scotland as the Belgian superstar looks set to retire at the age of just 32.

The former Chelsea hero has been mulling over his future after leaving Real Madrid earlier this summer. And various reports suggest Hazard has decided to call time on his playing career despite offers from elsewhere. Spanish outlet Diario AS reports that one of those proposals came from an unnamed club in the SPFL – which leaves only Rangers and Celtic as realistic options.

The Serie A side are keen to offload the Dutch frontman before the transfer window closes

Celtic are reported to be tracking striker Sydney van Hooijdonk – and a lowball offer could seal a move to the Scottish Premiership this summer.

It follows a public spat between his dad and former Hoops’ hero Pierre and Bologna boss Thiago Motta after he returned to the Serie A side off the back of successful loan spell at Heerenveen. Reports in Germany suggest that a return of 16 goals in 32 games last season has caught the eye of the Scottish champions and Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg with the clock ticking down the transfer deadline.

But that form left Bologna boss Motta unimpressed and he did not include the 23-year-old in the pre-season training camp in Spain – freezing the frontman out of the first-team picture immediately. Motta, who took over at the Italian outfit midway through last season, irked dad Pierre who took and his decision to leave Sydney out of the camp without seeing him up close.

Dutch Football 🇳🇱 no Twitter: "Pierre van Hooijdonk had to wait until he was 24 to make his Eredivisie debut with NAC. His son Sydney van Hooijdonk has done it at 18.

He hit out in the Dutch press stating: “It is incomprehensible that such a decision can be taken without anything motivating it. I don’t think Sydney could ever have created problems for the coach. I say: take him to the retreat, so you can judge him properly and protect the value of the player.”

Motta was asked about the situation of Van Hooijdonk Jr following the outburst – and only pointed the forward to the exit door. He said: “He has to find another situation for himself.

And following the row, Bologna have reportedly dropped their valuation in an effort to offload the centre-forward before the transfer deadline. VI claim that the Serie A side had set the asking price at €8million (£6.8million) at the start of the month.

The club are said to be open to offers – which could open the door for Celtic to land a bargain deal. It comes as a move for Mathias Kvistgaarden looks to be off due to Brondby’s sky-high asking price, while Luis Palma is expected to arrive imminently from Aris.
