MK Dons have announced the loan signing of Jack Payne from Charlton Athletic.

The 28-year-old will spend the 2023/24 campaign on a season-long-loan at stadium mk, with the midfielder becoming MK Dons’ 8th new arrival of the summer.

Payne is the fourth player with Charlton connections to move to Milton Keynes this summer, with the club having previously signed Alex Gilbey, Craig MacGillivray and Nathan Harness.

The attacking midfielder joined Charlton from Swindon last year, scoring 7 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions, including a winning goal for Charlton at stadium mk near the end of last season.

In an arrival interview with iFollow MK Dons, Payne spoke of his delight to make the move to work with Graham Alexander.

He said, “I’m really glad to be here. When I heard about the interest it was something that really interested me and I’m excited to get going,

“I spoke to the manager before joining and we had positive conversations, where he spoke highly of the place. It’s always important to get a good feeling when you talk to a manager, and I got that straight away. I’m really excited to work with him.

“The lads have been doing really well, so I don’t expect to just arrive and go straight into the team but, obviously, I’m going to be doing my best in training, and when I get the chance, I’m going to give it my all to help this team continue to be successful.”

Rumours of Payne moving to Milton Keynes emerged yesterday (29/08), with various sources reporting the link just before MK Dons’ EFL Trophy tie against the Chelsea under-21s.

Payne began his professional career with Southend United, named the club’s Player of the Year in his final season at the club before joining Huddersfield Town in 2016, and scoring a winner for the Terriers in a Championship match against Newcastle in one of his first appearances.

But Payne lost his place after Huddersfield won promotion to the Premier League, and after loan moves to Oxford, Blackburn and Bradford, he left to join Lincoln City in the summer of 2019, then moved onwards to Swindon and then Charlton.
