Nottingham Forest Still Hopeful Of Offloading Pair

Explained: Why Jonjo Shelvey was told to 'stay at home' for Nottingham Forest's defeat to Liverpool | Goal.com UK

Nottingham Forest are still hopeful about offloading Jonjo Shelvey and Emmanuel Dennis this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Tricky Trees had a frenetic end to the summer transfer window, mostly in terms of players incoming to boost Steve Cooper’s squad.

Emmanuel Dennis Doesn't Want To Leave Europe This Summer

They pocketed a significant €55m by selling Brennan Johnson to Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day.

A host of players with little chance of securing first-team minutes this season have also been sent out on loan across Europe.

And it has been claimed that the Tricky Trees are still looking to sell Shelvey and Dennis this summer while the other international transfer windows are still open.

Shelvey joined Nottingham Forest this January and he made only eight appearances under Cooper and the club are looking to offload him with two years remaining on his current contract.

Dennis joined the Tricky Trees from Watford last summer and struggled to settle in City Ground as he scored only two goals in 27 appearances.

Now it remains to be seen if the Premier League side will receive any offers for the duo, with notable windows in Greece and Turkey both open still.

Aguilera, Horvath, Williams – Nottingham Forest winners and losers from summer transfer window

Latest Nottingham Forest news as we reflect on a busy summer transfer window for Steve Cooper’s Reds

OptaJoe on X: "60% - Steve Cooper has won 60% of his 45 games in charge of Nottingham Forest (W27 D10 L8), the best win ratio of any Forest manager since the

After a quiet start to the transfer window, it turned out to be a summer of change at Nottingham Forest.

It was one full of ins and outs as the Reds put together a squad they hope is capable of making progress in the Premier League. The challenge for head coach Steve Cooper is to put it all together when the action resumes after the international break.

And, to be fair, the Reds have made a decent start, beating Chelsea away in their last outing to sit in ninth place after four games.

“We want to grow as a club,” the Welshman has said. “We’ve got to really think now how we want the team to look.”

Forest made some excellent signings during the window. We take a look some of the players who have benefitted from the business done, and others for whom the opposite might be the case.

Transfer window winners

Steve Cooper: There was a hint of frustration in early August when the Reds had made just three signings. Cooper was clear that further additions were needed for the club to kick on this season.

Now the window has closed, the Forest boss has got to be happy with the squad he has in place. There is no shortage of strength in depth, and owner Evangelos Marinakis has certainly backed him in the transfer market. Bringing in Ibrahim Sangare, in particular, was a real statement of intent.

Brandon Aguilera: Another loan move would have been in the pipeline for the youngster. But he impressed Cooper to such an extent that a decision was made to keep him at the City Ground.

You could argue there is a danger that might work against the Costa Rican, given he might not see too much game time. But the hope is he does get some minutes – including for the B team – while working with Cooper and the senior squad in training can help his development.

Have your say on Forest’s transfer window

The Forest midfield:Strengthening in the centre of the pitch was a key priority for the club during the transfer window. There was a recognition that it was an area the team had struggled in last term.

Having brought in Nicolas Dominguez and Andrey Santos, as well as Sangare, it is now a department where they are particularly strong. It means significant competition for places, and players know they will have to raise their game to hang on to the shirt. But as Ryan Yates always points out, bringing in quality players can only help up the levels of those already at the club.

Transfer window losers

Ethan Horvath: The American got used to being a No 1 during last season’s loan at Luton Town. The Hatters had previously indicated they would make his move permanent, only to change their minds after promotion was sealed.

Horvath has been back-up for Matt Turner in the Reds’ opening games, but even that place will be under threat following the arrival of Odysseas Vlachodimos. And with Wayne Hennessey nearing full fitness, it could be that either the Welshman or Horvath misses out on the 25-man squad.

Giulian Biancone: A hugely popular character, the Frenchman has suffered rotten fortune since joining the club last summer. An ACL injury soon into his Forest career ruled him out for much of the campaign.

Nottingham Forest defender Giulian Biancone to miss the rest of the Premier League season

Trying to stake a claim in a team which ended last season well was always going to be tough. And the challenge is even harder after a fresh round of signings.

Cooper has been keen to tread carefully with Biancone, mindful of the serious nature of his injury. His versatility is undoubtedly useful, but he has been linked with a move to Olympiacos.

Neco Williams: Right-back is one position where the Reds are very well stocked. Serge Aurier has the shirt at the minute, but World Cup winner Gonzalo Montiel has come in, while Ola Aina – who has been playing on the left in the first few games – is naturally right-footed. Biancone can play there, too.

Perhaps the player who will be hit hardest by the extent to which the full-back spots have been strengthened is Williams. Being able to play on either side is a valuable asset, but he still has his work cut out to feature on either flank – given the form of Aina on the left and the addition of Nuno Tavares there, too.
