Former Charlton Athletic Attacker Tipped For Championship Return

Birmingham City predicted to complete transfer for striker who is 'attracting attention' - Birmingham Live

Former Charlton Athletic and AFC Wimbledon attacker Lyle Taylor is currently a free agent, having been released by Nottingham Forest in the summer, but is now being tipped with a return to Birmingham City.

The Montserrat international became a regular goalscorer during his time with the Addicks and the Dons, bagging 91 times across 217 games including 36 in 67 appearances at the Valley.

It was his excellent form with Charlton that earned the striker a move to the City Ground following the expiration of his contract but Taylor couldn’t replicate his form of yesteryear with the Tricky Trees.

For the second half of the 2021/22 season, Taylor was loaned out to Birmingham City and recorded a decent output, scoring five times in 14.

Notts Forest released the 33-year-old during the summer and Taylor has been a free agent ever since. However, Sheffield Wednesday legend Carlton Palmer has claimed that the experienced forward is garnering a lot of interest from clubs in the Championship and League One.

Speaking to Football League World, the pundit also stated that he believes Birmingham City should sign Taylor on a free contract [quotes via FLW]:

“Lyle Taylor is another player who is still without a club after leaving Nottingham Forest. He is attracting a lot of attention from various Championship and League One clubs.

“I think that a return to Birmingham City would be a good move for him. John Eustace is in the market for a striker, and the 33-year-old could fit the bill,” Palmer continued.

“He had a loan spell at Birmingham in 2022, scoring five goals in 14 games. It could be a win-win for Birmingham City and the player.”

Taylor’s age may make some teams hesitant to tie him down to a contract, particularly since he hasn’t received much game time over the past twelve months.

However, the centre-forward’s goal record speaks for itself and Taylor could be a huge coup for a team like Birmingham City or any other Championship outfit looking to add a couple of goals to their attacking department.
