If Celtic will advance from the Champions League group stages, says Thierry Henry

Why is Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry coaching Belgium and does he manage a club side? | The Sun

Thierry Henry doesn’t think Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic will progress from the Champions League group stages this season.

It’s not what Celtic fans want to hear from the legendary striker, but he was pretty blunt and honest when asked about who will progress from Champions League Group E, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (19/09/23 at 10:45 pm)

It wasn’t the start the Bhoys wanted, but that defeat to Feyenoord was an early body blow, with the two sending-offs not helping matters – Thierry Henry and Micah Richards clashed over Joe Hart after the game.

Report claims Arsenal could lose four stars to PSG if Thierry Henry takes charge in €275m transfer spree

Following the conclusion of that game in Rotterdam, as well as Lazio and Atletico Madrid sharing the spoils, which saw goalkeeper, Ivan Provedel, remarkably score in the last minute, ex-World Cup winner Thierry Henry was asked which sides he thinks will progress.

With Feyenoord sitting on top after one game, Henry stated ‘don’t sleep’ on the Dutch champions, but he still backed Atletico and Lazio to progress.

And stated he is ‘sure’ that Celtic won’t make it to the knockout rounds.

“Don’t sleep on Feyenoord,” said Henry about the Dutch side’s chances of progressing. “It’s not a bad team. Don’t sleep on them.

“I don’t see Celtic going through, that’s for sure. I would still go with Jamie (Carragher). Atletico and Lazio (to progress), but it’s going to be tough with Feyenoord. It’s a good team, you know.”

Home games even more important

They were going to be the bread and butter anyway, don’t perform or put the wins on the board at home, then you don’t deserve to progress.

It’s Lazio first up at Celtic Park, they needed a last-minute goal from a keeper to get their first point on the board, so they shouldn’t be feared like an Atletico Madrid would be.

The crucial thing here is scoring that opening goal. Last season, there was so much early promise during the home Champions League ties, but that opening goal lacked and the team was punished.

That ruthless nature needs to be shown here, or the team will suffer the same fate.
