‘Could hint’: Liverpool journo’s injury theory would be update every fan feared

Joe Gomez’s complete absence from the Liverpool team that faced Leicester City in the Carabao Cup could be a bad omen for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Specifically, a worrying sign that Trent Alexander-Arnold may not yet be ready to start for the Red Devils in their next match – a trip to London to face Ange Postecoglu’s high-flying Tottenham side.

“A night off for Alisson, Joe Gomez, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah,” Theo Squires wrote on the Echo’s live blog during the day.

“Gomez’s absence is interesting. He’s had an excellent start to the season, but it’s safe to assume Trent Alexander-Arnold won’t necessarily be fit to start for Spurs this weekend.

The club are yet to confirm whether there is any truth to this theory, although it should be noted that the 26-year-old was not the team’s only notable admission on the day. Player number 66 recently returned to training after recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

Another absence ahead of our clash with Spurs this weekend would be a huge blow, especially considering how difficult a game it was to begin with.

However, to be fair to our substitutes, Gomez put in an excellent performance despite the absence of first-choice right-back and Virgil van Dijk before our 3-1 win over West Ham United.

There’s no doubt we’ll be looking forward to seeing Trent return to action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, although no-one should be throwing toys out of their pram if our No.2 finds himself in the backline again.

Curtis Jones handed new role to Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp makes 10 changes to Leicester City

Jurgen Klopp made a total of 10 changes for Leicester City’s League Cup away trip

Curtis Jones will start at right-back for Liverpool when they host Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

Jurgen Klopp makes a total of 10 changes for the Foxes’ round 3 clash, but Jones retains his place and is placed in defense but is expected to drop to midfield when the Red Devils have control.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold still recovering from a hamstring problem and Stefan Bajcetic still fully fit after six months on the sidelines, Joe Gomez is on the bench ahead of Saturday’s trip to Tottenham, meaning Jones will be asked to play in the hybrid full-back position that Klopp currently favors.

Elsewhere at the back, Ibrahima Konate returns alongside Jarell Quansah at centre-back while Kostas Tsimikas, recently signed on a new contract, starts on the left. Captain Virgil van Dijk sat on the bench.
