The Record Sport team discuss all the hot topics in Scottish football.

How do you reckon VAR is performing this season after a bumpy first few months last term?

SCOTT BURNS: I am still far from impressed with it. There are too many inconsistencies over decisions. Better calls need to be made from the VAR control room to help our officials and our game.

GORDON PARKS: It’s continuing to drain the joy from football and it’s still throwing up shambolic decisions. It’s overused and the sooner it’s ditched, the better.

MICHAEL GANNON: It seems to be a bit smoother but there will always be flashpoints. The Sima decision at Ibrox was a strange one but you’ll never take debate out of the game.

After four straight wins, has Michael Beale earned some wriggle room at Rangers?
SCOTT: I’m not sure he has. He is winning games, but some of them have been far from convincing. If he loses against Aberdeen, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s fired.

GORDON: It’s a stretch to say he’s earned any wriggle room as performances have been awful and the recruitment just as bad. There’s a sense the fans have already decided he’s not the brains of the operation after all.

MICHAEL: Not really. If Rangers spill points against Aberdeen he’ll be right up against it again. There’s a section of Gers fans who have lost patience and it’s going to be tough to win them back.

Joe Hart will sit out the Motherwell clash for Celtic, but is his No.1 role under threat?

I'll never take wearing this shirt for granted' - Hart - BBC Sport

SCOTT: You have to say in the long run Joe Hart should be looking over his shoulder. I would expect Celtic to make a significant investment in the goalkeeping area either in January or in the summer.

GORDON: No. Hart is still a top keeper and he’ll be straight back in after his suspension.

MICHAEL: Hart remains the best keeper at the club and he will be straight back in next week. At 36, the long term will need to be addressed, but in the here and now Brendan Rodgers doesn’t need to lose any sleep over it.

How will Duncan Ferguson get on as Inverness Caley Thistle manager?

SCOTT: It will be a fascinating watch. He hasn’t got a lot of Scottish lower league experience but he has made a wise appointment in Gary Bollan as his No. 2. I expect to see an immediate lift.

GORDON: My old mate will energise the entire town and he’s far more astute as he gets credit for. The three year deal will allow him time to reignite the club and use his extensive contacts to get Inverness challenging for promotion.

MICHAEL: It’s a big, bold move from both and it could either be a huge success or a total disaster. It’s going to be a thrill ride that might just pay off.
