Lazio midfielder secures new contract ahead of Champions League clash with Celtic.

Luis Alberto shoulders blame for Liverpool flop after becoming a Serie A star at Lazio | Goal.com

Lazio, Celtic’s Champions League adversaries, have revealed that Luis Alberto has signed to a new four-year contract. On Monday evening, the Serie A club confirmed that the Spaniard has signed a new deal ahead of their journey to Glasgow to face Celtic in the UEFA Champions League.

The 30-year-old, who played for Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers, has been an important member of the Roma side since his arrival in 2016.

Lazio want to tie down Luis Alberto: renewal until 2025 and double his salary

Lazio paid only €4 million for the midfielder, who has appeared in 271 games for the Italians, scoring 49 goals and assisting 70 times. When Maurizio Sarri’s squad arrives in Glasgow’s East End, they will be hoping he has an impact.

Alberto was powerless to stop Celtic in 2019, when Neil Lennon’s team won 2-1 at home and away against the visitors from Italy’s capital. Hopefully, the outcome will be repeated on Wednesday, when the clubs play in the Champions League on Matchday Two.

Celtic have had a solid week in terms of long-term contracts, with Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate committing to new deals. Following a setback to Feyenoord in Rotterdam, the Scottish Champions will be eager to collect their first points of the UCL season.
