Brendan Rodgers set an unfavorable personal record after Celtic lost to Lazio in the Champions League.

On Wednesday night, the former Leicester City manager’s side were defeated 2-1 by the Serie A club.

When the drama began, Kyogo Furuhashi had given the hosts the lead before Matias Vecino equalized.

Rodgers looked unhappy as Lazio won late at Celtic Park, with former Barcelona and Chelsea forward Pedro heading in Matteo Guendouzi’s cross on 95 minutes.

The setback drops Celtic to the bottom of Group E after back-to-back defeats, and Rodgers earns the distinction of being the poorest manager to have taken charge of 20 Champions League games.

Rodgers has only won two games in the competition, drew five and lost 13.

So far, none of the 87 managers in charge of 20 games in the competition have won fewer than the 50-year-old.

Rodgers’ most recent Champions League victory was in 2017 when Celtic defeated Anderlecht 3-0 in Belgium.

His other was a 2-1 triumph over Bulgarian team Ludogorets Razgrad at Anfield in September 2014, when Steven Gerrard scored a last-gasp penalty.

“Disappointed in terms of the result, of course, but really for the players because they gave so much,” Rodgers said after the game to TNT Sports.

We scored a great goal and are not happy with the one we  conceded.

“With the exception of one chance early in the second half, we looked like we could go on and take it.”

“If you’re disappointed with the winning goal, all you have to do now is secure the game; that’s just game management.” We lose the game because of that one moment of excellence.

“I can’t criticise the players for the effort they put in during the game. After all they gave, I can’t be critical of this group of players. We should have gotten more out of that game.”
