Arsenal are making preparations for the January transfer window as Mikel Arteta aims to bolster his team after a £210 million summer shopping binge.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has targeted Jamie Bynoe-Gittens of Borussia Dortmund as a player who might boost the Gunners’ Premier League title challenge in the January transfer window. The 19-year-old has impressed throughout his time in Germany, appearing in five games this season across all competitions.

Bynoe-Gittens just signed a new long-term contract with Dortmund, which will keep him with the Bundesliga club until 2028. The 19-year-old joined Dortmund from Manchester City’s youth system in 2020, and his contract extension demonstrates Dortmund’s belief that Bynoe-Gittens can be the next superstar developed at Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund have a fantastic track record of nurturing young prospects into world-class stars, with Ousmane Dembele, Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland, and Jude Bellingham all developing at the club before leaving for big money. Bynoe-Gittens could be the next big name to leave for a big money, with Arsenal reportedly contemplating a bid for the England Under-21 international.

When called upon by his team, Bynoe-Gittens has already won high praise, with Dortmund boss Edin Terzic telling DAZN last season: “With him, it’s basically quite simple: he has the ability to decide games.” He’s a game changer, and that’s exactly what I expected from him.”

Bynoe-Gittens can play on both flanks and would give cover for both Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka. Both Arsenal stars have been injured this season, as has Leandro Trossard, leaving Arteta with few options in attack at times.

The Dortmund talent’s enthusiasm off the bench could be considered as an appealing characteristic as the season progresses and the title competition heats up. Last season, Bynoe-Gittens contributed four goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances, and Arteta’s ability to nurture young talents into great players could see the 19-year-old become the ideal challenge for Saka and Martinelli in attack.

Despite the plan to sign Bynoe-Gittens, Arsenal’retain’ an interest in Wolves forward Pedro Neto, according to The Mirror, but his current form for the Premier League side could complicate a January move for the player as O’Neill’s side look to hold on to one of their best players to ensure survival.

The Gunners are long-time admirers of the winger and may revive a deal for the self-confessed Arsenal supporter in 2024.

Neto was apparently the subject of a transfer enquiry during the summer transfer window, which was immediately rejected by the West Midlands club after they had already lost Raul Jimenez and Daniel Podence previous to the start of the season.
