Waving at least sixty flags in the away end against Hearts, Celtic supporters demonstrated their resolve to counteract criticism regarding their support for Palestine from within the club.

In spite of the club’s condemnation of pro-Palestine banners two weeks prior, large portions of the 650-person away section at Tynecastle Park displayed the national flag.

The club made it clear following a victory over Kilmarnock that “political messages and banners” were not permitted at any Celtic game. Hours before, the extremist organization Hamas carried out an unparalleled assault on Israel, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of citizens and the kidnapping of numerous others, prompting Israel to carry out counterattacks.

Nonetheless, flags were flown at a number of games during a weekend that saw roughly 100,000 protestors gather in central London to voice their support for Palestine.

Before Liverpool’s Premier League victory over Everton, a small group of supporters from Friends of Palestine waved flags at Anfield.

In an attempt to prevent possible incidents, the Premier League informed clubs in the lead-up to the weekend that fans were not allowed to bring Israel or Palestine flags into stadiums.

According to reports in Scotland, a similar show is also scheduled for Tuesday night’s Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. Numerous Premier League players have voiced their opinions regarding the dispute.

As food and water supplies run low, Mohamed Salah, a forward for Liverpool and Egypt, demanded that the killing cease and that Gaza be opened to immediate humanitarian aid.
