Collingwood announce further list changes

Collingwood Football Club has signed three new players to new contracts.

The Collingwood Football Club is happy to announce the signing of Aiden Begg, Nathan Kreuger, and Josh Carmichael to new contracts.

The three have inked one-year deals that will keep them in the black-and-white stripes until the end of 2024.

Begg was drafted by the Pies in the 2021 Mid-Season Rookie Draft and has appeared in three AFL games since his Round 7 debut against the Gold Coast Suns in 2022.

Following three seasons at Geelong, Kreuger joined the Club during the 2021 Trade Period. Since the deal, the ruckman has managed seven AFL games.

Carmichael joined the Pies from West Adelaide in last year’s Mid-Season Rookie Draft and has made an impression in eight games.

All three players contributed to the Club’s VFL program this year, which led to a finals berth

“We’re delighted to have Aiden, Nathan, and Josh back for another season,” Collingwood Football General Manager Graham Wright said.

“Our football program is dedicated to investing in the next generation of young talent, and today’s signings reflect that commitment.”

“Since joining us, Josh has seamlessly integrated into our game plan and demonstrated great perseverance.” Nathan and Aiden have both demonstrated skill and commitment, highlighting his potential.

In other list management news, Will Kelly has been notified that he will not be hired by the Club.

The 23-year-old was chosen as a father-son pairing in the 2018 AFL National Draft and has made five AFL matches since his debut in 2020.

Kelly was an important member of the Club’s VFL program throughout his five seasons with the club. He averaged 15 disposals and five goals in 15 games this year.

Kelly was an important element in the side’s 2023 finals campaign, when he played a VFL career-best game against Carlton in Round 19. The midfielder had 22 disposals and three goals.

The Club will look into the possibility of Kelly training with the AFL program during the 2024 AFL Supplementary Selection Period (SSP).

Graham Wright, Collingwood’s general manager of football, congratulated Kelly for his

contributions to the club.

We thank Will for all that he has put in across five seasons with the Club,” Wright said.

“Unfortunately for Will, he has faced injury challenges that have kept him out of the AFL side, but his strong willpower and ability to develop through our VFL program should be commended.

“We have informed Will we will consider adding him as a train-on player over the pre-season if we have SSP spots available following the completion of the draft process in November.”

Collingwood currently possesses choices 19, 33, and 80 in the upcoming 2023 AFL National Draft.
