Three spots in the Celtic team might be the focus of Brendan Rodgers’ January strengthening efforts.

Brendan Rodgers turned down Saudi millions before Celtic return

The Celtic supporters learned that the strength off the bench isn’t as strong as they would like during yesterday’s draw against Hibs.

Paulo Bernardo, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Daizen Maeda were removed by Brendan Rodgers and were replaced by Mikey Johnston, David Turnbull, and Hyoengyu Oh.

The game’s outcome and Celtic’s tempo were unaffected by any of the three, and Brendan Rodgers didn’t pick up the pace until the final ten to fifteen minutes of play, when James Forrest, another substitute, converted the one and only opportunity Celtic had to win the game.

The fact is that no player on the bench has the ability to significantly impact a game, and writer Mark Guidi thinks Celtic should bolster three important areas in January to achieve just that.

All Guidi could say was, “I don’t know what Brendan Rodgers wants in January,” [on The Go Radio Football Show.

I believe he’s looking for a striker. I have a feeling that he may be looking for a left back. If that’s the case, he should try to find a decent goalie before someone else does.

However, I would advise the board to support him in whatever he wishes to do. And if, as I believe he does, he wants a few of ready-made players. In the summer, he made a lot of legitimate insinuations about it.

“A lot of talented players enter the field, but the focus is on projects and potential.

“I think he’s earned the right to get what he wants. And if that means spending a few quid without going daft, then do it.

“So whatever the manager asks for, he has earned the right to get. Otherwise, it goes back to what’s the point in getting him if you don’t give him what he wants.”

Those three positions have been spoken about previously by TBR Celtic. We have discussed how Celtic failed to strengthen two of them in the summer when Hugh McDonald said they were actively looking for a goalkeeper and a left-back.

So this seems like it is a recurring theme when it comes to Celtic in the transfer window and the fans will be hoping that Brendan Rodgers will be allowed to splash the cash when it re-opens in January.
