COSTA MESA, California — Derek Carr is still getting used to wearing different colors for the first time in his NFL career after nine years in silver and black.

The new Saints quarterback is back on the west coast this week, as New Orleans prepares for a preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Saints and Chargers shared the field for two joint practices prior to Sunday’s game.

Carr is all too familiar with the Los Angeles Chargers. Carr faced the Raiders frequently as an AFC West rival as a member of the team. The Saints, on the other hand, play in a different conference, and the city is nearly 2,000 miles away from Southern California.

“I’m still adjusting and doing my best at it,” Carr told reporters. “We still have a house in Vegas and call it home.”

“There’s always that fire when you’re released somewhere.” You feel rejuvenated and refreshed. It’s been fantastic in our building.”

Carr was released by the Las Vegas Raiders in February after a public divorce, paving the way for him to land in New Orleans. Despite the high-profile split, Carr told reporters this week that he harbors no ill will toward his former club.

“I wish the Raiders the best of luck.” “Those are my pals,” Carr explained. “I’m hoping they win and do well.” But I’m in New Orleans now, and I’m going to give them everything I’ve got in terms of new energy and all that.”
