Green Bay Packers: Former 3rd Round Pick Is Elected To Senator Position (Breaking)

BREAKING: Former Green Bay Packers Tight End Signs With Pittsburgh Steelers

The Green Bay Packers have had a number of former players go on and do incredible things outside of the NFL.  That is no different today as one former Safety won an election that continued to change his life.

Former Green Bay Packers Safety Aaron Rouse Wins Virginia Senate

During the 2007 NFL Draft, Rouse was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the third round (89th overall). On June 8th, 2007, he signed a four-year, $2.3 million contract with the Packers.  Today it was announced that Rouse was elected to the Virginia Senate according to The Virginian Pilot:

The Associated Press projected Sen. Aaron Rouse, a Democrat, winning Senate District 22 over Republican Kevin Adams.

Rouse announced victory around 9:40 p.m. in a tightly contested race for a Senate district that encompasses central parts of Virginia Beach.

The Associated Press called the race at approximately 11:30 p.m. Rouse was ahead with 55% of the vote and Adams with 98% of precincts reporting.

Rouse gave a brief victory speech, reassuring women he would fight to protect their reproductive rights and reassuring teachers he would work to get them better pay. Afterwards, he moved around the room hugging and shaking hands with the dozens of supporters who attended the watch party. Many had shown up around 7 p.m., waiting more than two hours for Rouse’s appearance.

“The blue wall is intact!” Rouse shouted over a room of cheering supporters at a Democratic watch party in Virginia Beach.

“Senator Aaron Rouse — that has a nice ring to it!” the DJ shouted, pumping up the energetic crowd as music blasted.

Politics COMPLETELY aside, it is very exciting to see a former Packers player pursuing a career in a completely different field.

Approximately 150,000 voters live in the 22nd district, which is located entirely in Virginia Beach. As a result of the new electoral map, this was the first election since it was implemented.

On January 10, when the Virginia General Assembly convenes for its 2024 session, Rouse will be sworn in.
