28-year-old Celtic player was spotted ‘very unhappy’ leaving the pitch vs Aberdeen

Celtic’s brilliant 6-0 win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership seems to have come at a cost to the Hoops.

Brendan Rodgers thrilled to see Kyogo Furuhashi shine in deeper role | beIN SPORTS

Midway through the second half, Celtic striker, Kyogo Furuhashi, had to be subbed off after a shocking challenge by Aberdeen defender, Slobodan Rubezic.

The 28-year-old looked like he was knocked out cold by the challenge and although he did manage to walk off the pitch, BBC pitch-side reporter, Kheredine Idessane shared Kyogo’s reaction when the Dons defender offered a handshake.

Idessane said [BBC], “That was an incredibly sore one Kyogo took there from Rubezic, head on head contact from behind. The Japanese star was extremely groggy and unsteady as he was helped past me up the tunnel.

“And he refused the Dons’ defender’s offer of a handshake. Furuhashi very unhappy at the challenge, understandably so.”

It really was a shocking challenge by the Aberdeen defender and how he never saw red is beyond me.

The Celtic striker was out cold after being struck in the head and now he misses international duty with Japan after Brendan Rodgers confirmed that he would be staying behind to be watched over by the Celtic medical team.

Thankfully, it seems like no lasting damage was done but questions do need to be asked how the VAR officials and the pitch referee do not deem that aggressive challenge as dangerous play.

How Kyogo Furuhashi became the perfect fit for Celtic

It seems to me that the referee made a clear and obvious error by not brandishing the red card to Rubezic and, it seems strange to say after a 6-0 hammering, Aberdeen really got away with one here.

But for now, a two-week international break beckons and Brendan Rodgers can keep a close eye on his star man.

Because with the run of fixtures coming Celtic’s way towards the end of November and through the whole of December, Rodgers is going to need his full squad to negotiate the final two Champions League and EIGHT SPFL fixtures.
