Celtic were linked with a lot of big names in the summer although they ended up sticking to making ‘project’ signings for the most part. Most of those moves have not worked out so far and there have been calls for the transfer policy to change.

Brendan Rodgers has openly admitted that more quality is needed on multiple occasions. Thus, there are a lot of eyes on the club’s transfer activity over January.

“I need to start playing games very soon – if not at Man United then at another club. I think I have to be ambitious. I have always been a lover of the game. I am absolutely crazy about football. I earn a good living at United, but money is not my motivation. I want to enjoy my work every day.”

Van de Beek is clearly hungry and someone with a point to prove. That might be exactly the type of player Celtic need after a sluggish first half of the season.

If Van de Beek is available on loan, Celtic should consider making a move for him. He was a superstar at Ajax and if he is able to rediscover that form in Scotland, he would be one of the best players in the Premiership.

Of course, it is hard to see Celtic being able to sign him on a permanent basis. Despite how things have gone for him at Manchester United, it is expected that it would take a significant transfer fee to sign the Dutch midfielder.

There is nothing wrong with a good loan deal. Players like Fraser Forster, Robbie Keane, Craig Bellamy, Patrick Roberts and many others have made positive impacts at Parkhead while only there temporarily.
