Celtic Invincible signs short-term deal, can face Brendan Rodgers’ side this week

Former Celtic winger Gary Mackay-Steven has signed a short term deal with Kilmarnock. The 33-year-old was a free agent having left Hearts as a free agent at the end of last season but was unable to find a new club as he returned from injury.

Mackay-Steven, who spent just over two years at Celtic, can now face the Scottish Champions this weekend

Celtic signed GMS alongside his teammate and pal, Stuart Armstrong at the end of the winter transfer window in 2015. Under Ronny Deila, he made 51 appearances, scoring ten times and assisting on 11 occasions; however, under Rodgers, he made just 11 appearances and neither scored nor assisted, which hastened his departure to Aberdeen.

The winger won five trophies during his time at Celtic, including the Invincible Treble from Rodgers’ first season in his first stint in charge.

Now, having returned from injury, the manager that took him from Celtic to Aberdeen has signed him on a short-term contract. Derek McInnes has now brought Mackay-Steven to Killie Park as they look to be more clinical in the final third. Whilst it is ostensibly a three and a half week contract, there are seven games for Killie to compete in during that spell.

The former Scotland International has penned a deal until the winter break, meaning he and Killie can assess options with the January window up and running.
