Georgia Bulldogs Lose Former 5-Star Cornerback To The Transfer Portal
The Georgia Bulldogs had another great season in 2023 but it fell short of their standards. After losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship game, the Bulldogs missed out on the College Football Playoff. Now, they are dealing with players leaving for the transfer portal. Former five-star recruit Nyland Green announced that he is entering the transfer portal.
Georgia Bulldogs CB Nyland Green Enters Transfer Portal
Green was the second-ranked cornerback in the 2021 class. He has been a staple of the Georgia secondary over the past three seasons appearing in 23 games and tallying seven tackles and one pass breakup. He now enters to portal to likely try and find more playing time. He had this to say in a statement to On3.
“First and foremost, I want to thank God for allowing me to be in this position—-none of this would be possible without him. I’m grateful for the fans, coaches, and teammates I had during my time at Georgia. Most importantly, I am thankful for the brothers I’ve made here. I have put much thought towards this and I feel it is best for me to continue my journey elsewhere. These past 3 years at Georgia will always be a blessing and something I’ll remember forever. With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility.
No Concern For Georgia
I wouldn’t be very concerned if I were Kirby Smart and the Georgia staff. In this college football landscape, players are going to leave for more playing time or different NIL opportunities. Georgia has one of the best recruiting engines in all of college football and should easily replenish talent. The Bulldogs are also more likely to lose players as they have so many good ones that there isn’t enough playing time to go around. While it always hurts to see a player, especially a former five-star recruit, walk out the door, it shouldn’t concern fans too much.
Other programs, like Ohio State and Texas A&M, are seeing a mass exodus. That doesn’t seem to be happening in Georgia and they will easily be in the mix for the title in 2024.
