The Lions could be very active with staff hires this offeseason

I know everyone is riding high after a huge 42-17 win for the Detroit Lions, but that win and some recent events in the NFL have really got my mind going today. So much that I had to go into the office and poor this article out on the page before I go insane.

Has anyone ever seen the Pepe Silvia episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia? I love that one. It’s definitely the episode that got me into the show. Well, I’m about to get a little Pepe Silvia on this whole thing. I have a board in my office with push pins and string all over it. Here’s what on my mind.

I think at this point we all know that Ben Johnson is leaving. I’d say 98% of Lions fans know this. Facebook is still all in on the idea that I’m crazy and I’m just making this up to be negative. Everyone else knows.

Last week the Chargers fired Brandon Staley and I can’t think of a better place for Johnson to wind up considering that Justin Herbert is there and that they have some nice offensive weapons that just need to be guided in the right direction. The thing is, it’s not so much the destination for Johnson that has me thinking, it’s who Johnson could take with him.

Coaches tend to do it all the time. Dan Campbell is a perfect example right off the bat. He left the Saints to take the Lions job and he took Aaron Glenn with him. It’s just something that happens. So who does Johnson take with him?

There is only one name to be concerned about if you ask me. That’s Tanner Engstrand. Right now Engstrand is the Lions passing game coordinator. He’s worked hand in hand with Ben Johnson and Jared Goff and is expected by many to be the Lions next offensive coordinator if and when Johnson leaves.
