Three former Bulldogs transfer to Purdue

Georgia football’s pipeline to the Boilermakers has suddenly taken off.

Three Georgia players announced their decisions to transfer to Purdue for the 2024 season. Cornerback Nyland Green was the first to announce, as he made his announcement on Christmas Day.

Green, a former five-star recruit, wasn’t able to consistently find the field with the Bulldogs. While he joined the team with tremendous promise, Green was supplanted by players like rising third-years Daylen Everette and Julian Humphrey.

Green did see the field at points but had expectations of starting after doing so alongside Kamari Lassiter in the G-Day game before the season. Green finished his Georgia career with 12 tackles and only two pass deflections.

Green joins fellow former Bulldog C.J. Madden on the defensive side of the ball. Like Madden, Green will have to earn his starting spot on the depth chart. The Boilermakers had two corners that saw extended playing time that transferred into the program. Green will have an opportunity to follow suit and revitalize Purdue’s defense.

On the other side of the ball, wide receivers De’Nylon Morissette and C.J. Smith announced their intentions to transfer to Purdue on Friday. Morissette announced his decision on Instagram.

Morissette spent two seasons with the Bulldogs but didn’t play much this year after an up-and-down first season. He was arrested for a DUI over the summer and was away from team practice during the summer, but returned when the school year began. Morissette finished his Bulldogs career with four catches for 34 yards.

Smith made his transfer announcement on the same day and around the same time as Morissette. Smith made his announcement on his X/Twitter account.

Smith was the final Bulldog to enter the transfer portal in this current cycle but committed just six days after entering.

The fellow 2022 prospect’s Georgia career was almost the opposite of Morissette’s. Smith didn’t see the field much at all during his freshman year, but found his way to the field as a redshirt freshman after some injuries to Georgia’s receiver room.

Smith found success early in the year, but slowed down as Georgia’s receivers got healthier. Smith finished his Georgia career with six catches for 116 yards.

Together, Morissette and Smith have an opportunity to remedy a rough Boilermakers passing game that only passed for 2,534 yards — over 1,000 fewer yards than what Georgia achieved in 2023.

As both players exit, only two receivers remain from the 2022 class. Dillon Bell, who’ll likely be one of the team’s top receivers this season, and Cole Speer, a key special teams player, are the only two that remain.

All four Bulldogs that are headed to the Boilermakers are part of a massive transfer portal class. Purdue is bringing in at least 14 players to replace the approximately 25 outgoing transfers. While Purdue struggled in Ryan Walters’ first season as head coach, the infusion of Georgia talent among others could propel the team back into bowl consideration.
