Are the Hurricanes positioning themselves to land Javion Cohen’s replacement through the Transfer Portal?

The Miami Hurricanes are trying to add the final piece to what should be one of the top offensive lines in America in 2024.

Gaby Urrutia from Inside The U reports that the Hurricanes are hosting standout former Washington Huskies guard Nate Kalepo for an official visit on Saturday.

Urrutia notes that Kalepo was only credited with one sack given up in 923 snaps. He only surrendered 16 quarterback pressures. He didn’t allow any sacks or pressures against Michigan in the National Championship game.

Kalepo has one season of eligibility remaining.

Miami’s offensive line is already deep, but adding Kalepo would give the Hurricanes the type of experience and pedigree at left guard that Javion Cohen gave the team in 2023. Cohen is off to the NFL after a strong season.

The Hurricanes return three out of five starters from last season: left tackle Jalen Rivers, right guard Anez Cooper and right tackle Francis Mauigoa. Miami has already replaced former starting center Matt Lee with former Indiana starter Zach Carpenter.

If Kalepo doesn’t pick the Hurricanes, Miami has some good options like Matthew McCoy, Tommy Kinslerand Samson Okunlolawho can compete for a starting spot. Miami O-line coach Alex Mirabal cross-trains his linemen at multiple spots. Rivers, who started all of last season at left tackle, is capable of playing guard if necessary

Head coach Mario Cristobal loves to win in the trenches and Miami is making it a priority to protect their prized transfer quarterback Cam Ward.
