The Houston Texans have re-signed long snapper Jon Weeks, solidifying that he will return for his 15th season with the team. Though the organization did not release details of the contract, Aaron Wilson of KPRC reported the one-year deal is worth $1.21 million with a $167,500 signing bonus.

Weeks is the first of the Texans’ offseason moves, and fittingly so. He’s appeared in a franchise-record 227 straight games, including all 12 playoff games for the franchise. His playing career even overlapped with head coach DeMeco Ryans, who was a linebacker for the Texans from 2006-2011.

The 37-year-old is also the team’s Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee. He serves as a sponsor in the Houston Texans Community Huddle Ticket Program by providing tickets to kids who were victims of child abuse through Child Advocates, as well as annually delivering Thanksgiving dinners to patients in Texas Children’s Heart Center with his teammates. Weeks also hosts an annual Christmas shopping spree for kids from Child Advocates, giving more than 35 kids the opportunity to shop for gifts at a local Target during the holiday season.

“It meant the world to me for the organization to nominate me, especially because I know the men in that locker room are and I know how giving those men are,” Weeks said in a recent interview posted on the Texans’ team website. “Something I’ve brought up many times since I was nominated [is that] something my parents and grandparents always told me was that if you’re in a position to give back in life, it’s your job to do it.”

Weeks’ nomination and longevity with the team are reasons why he’s well-respected by his peers, including former three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt, who recently heralded Weeks as the team’s under-the-radar top special teams contributor. Weeks earned an invite to the 2015 Pro Bowl, and is also credited with 33 tackles and one fumble recovery during his career.
