According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Los Angeles Lakers will sign Spencer Dinwiddie.

On Saturday morning, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium has reported that the Los Angeles Lakers will sign Spencer Dinwiddie.

Dinwiddie had been recently waived by the Toronto Raptors (after getting traded via the Brooklyn Nets), so he needs to clear waivers, and then he will be an unrestricted free agent.

Dinwiddie has played in 48 games this season and is averaging 12.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.0 assists per contest while shooting 39.1% from the field and 32.0% from the three-point range.

He’s been in the NBA for ten seasons and has also spent time with the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards (in addition to Brooklyn).

During the 2022 season, Dinwiddie was a key player on the Mavs, who reached the Western Conference Finals.

On Friday evening, after the Lakers beat the New Orleans Pelicans by a score of 139-122, LeBron James was asked about Dinwiddie (h/t Spectrum SportsNet).

James on what Dinwiddie could bring to the Lakers: “Play-making, another ball-handler, another shot-maker, another guy, another veteran.”

Over 514 regular season games, Dinwiddie has career averages of 13.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per contest while shooting 41.5% from the field and 33.1% from the three-point range.

He has also appeared in 28 NBA playoff games.

Right now, the Lakers are the ninth seed in the Western Conference with a 28-26 record in 54 games.
