Could Rams Star Aaron Donald Going to AFC Prevent Chiefs Three-Peat?

The Kansas City Chiefs won their second straight Super Bowl on Sunday, and as a result, many are viewing them as a dynasty that could last awhile.

In a recent article by Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay, he outlines five trades that could be made in an effort to keep Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs from winning their third straight championship.

In one of the trades, the Los Angeles Rams would send their franchise defensive tackle Aaron Donald to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the No. 18 and No. 80 overall pick this upcoming draft.

“The Cincinnati Bengals are the only AFC team to have beaten the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs over the last five years… the Bengals have most of the pieces in place to make another run next season,” Kay writes. “Donald is one of the few players capable of collapsing the pocket seemingly at will, and he would help Cincinnati execute the same type of plan for stopping Patrick Mahomes that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers provided the league when they handed him his lone Super Bowl loss three years ago.”

Donald is 32 years old, and most likely just has a few more seasons of solid play left in him before he decides to call it quits.

While the future Hall of Famer would love to spend those last seasons with the Rams, the Bengals could give him his best shot to win a Super Bowl in the remaining time he has in the league.

Donald signed a three-year $95 million deal in 2022 with a $25 million signing bonus and is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2024 season.

In other words, should Donald decide he wants to take his talents elsewhere after his contract is up, the Rams could lose him for nothing. So in theory, it could be in their best interest to make a deal sooner rather than later.

And as a young overall team that has to replace 28 free agents this offseason, moving Donald for mulitple draft picks sooner might be in their best interest.
