Caitlin Clark already has a favorite teammate to assist with the Indiana Fever

Caitlin Clark capped her college career by claiming the all-time record for points scored in the NCAA — but it sounds like her role will be changing a bit as she prepares to begin her WNBA career with the Indiana Fever.

Clark, a prodigious point producer who averaged better than 31 points per game in her final season at Iowa, has already name checked the teammate for whom she is most excited to make plays. It will be a chance for the #1 overall pick to make an instant impact as she gains experience and strength to score in tough matchups against longtime pros.

Rewinding to Clark’s introductory press conference on April 17, the former Hawkeyes star deliberately highlighted her passing ability and is now displaying it at the Fever’s training camp — where she is turning heads just two weeks before the start of the 2024 WNBA season.

“I love setting my teammates up for success,” Clark said on April 17. “I get to play with the best of the best in the world now, so why wouldn’t I want to feed them the ball? Especially with Aliyah (Boston), I’m just like: layup, layup, layup, layup.”

Clark is referring to her new partnership with Fever center Aliyah Boston, the top overall pick in the 2023 draft and the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year last season. Boston last season averaged 14.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game without Clark as her point guard. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Boston made it clear how much she is looking forward to working with her new running mate.

“You guys can see it when you come in watch practice, Caitlin’s ability to pass the ball, her ability to get it into the post at the right angle,” Boston said. “We know that if we run, Caitlin’s going to find us, and we have to make the right play.”
