Sepp Kuss (Visma-Lease a Bike), the reigning Vuelta a España champion, battled valiantly to remain competitive throughout the intense stage 8 finish this year, but ultimately lost more than a minute to stage winner Primoz Roglič (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe). The American cyclist presently trails Roglič by 2:32 and is 6:22 behind the leader, Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale’s Ben O’Connor. Kuss detailed what transpired when he and other riders were ensnared in a collision that occurred on a steep right-hand turn leading to the last climb at Sierra de Cazorla in a statement posted on the team website. After Roglič’s constant onslaught, Kuss lost time and only momentarily reconnected with the other GC favorites.
