Las Vegas Raiders Sign Running Back Alexander Mattison

In a move to bolster their backfield, the Las Vegas Raiders have signed running back Alexander Mattison to a one-year, $2 million contract. Mattison, who spent the last five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the Raiders’ offense.

The 25-year-old running back played in 16 games last season, starting 13, and had a productive year with 700 rushing yards and 30 catches for 192 yards. Mattison’s versatility and ability to contribute in both the running and passing games make him an attractive addition to the Raiders’ roster.

Mattison was drafted by the Vikings in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft and has played in 75 games, starting 19. During his time in Minnesota, he shared the backfield with star running back Dalvin Cook, but still managed to carve out a significant role for himself.

The Raiders’ signing of Mattison is seen as a move to complement their existing backfield, which includes Josh Jacobs and Zamir White. Mattison’s experience and skillset will provide a boost to the team’s running game, and his ability to catch passes out of the backfield will add an extra dimension to the offense.

“Alec is a talented running back who brings a lot to the table,” said Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels. “He’s a physical runner who can also contribute in the passing game. We’re excited to have him on board and think he’ll be a great addition to our team.”

Mattison’s signing is also seen as a move to address the Raiders’ lack of depth at the running back position. With Jacobs and White expected to handle the bulk of the carries, Mattison will provide a reliable backup option and allow the team to rest their starters more frequently.

The Raiders’ offseason has been marked by a series of savvy moves, and the signing of Mattison is just the latest example. With their roster shaping up to be one of the strongest in the AFC West, the Raiders are poised for a big season in 2024.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but sources close to the team indicate that Mattison’s contract is worth $2 million, with incentives that could push the total value to $3 million.
